a Sorrowful Knight
In my latest solo Mythic Bastionland session, at the beginning of the filling of a second favourite notebook, the fated roll of the dice made it so that my Knight - Gowere - and his Squire - Samzun - came to meet a Sorrowful Knight.
The Sorrowful Knight appears during an Omen of the myth of the Shadow, which is one of those available to be played through in Chris McDowell's quickstart rules for the game.
In my sessions it had happened that Knight and Squire successfully avoided the trial to the Bat to end up in an execution of the accused, appealing to the Merciful nature of the current ruler of H2 - Seat of Power. The ruler takes charge of keeping both Bat and population safe; also offers to pay for reparations to the villages most hit by the general hysteria as long as H3 and H4 also pay their share, given they sit equidistantly from the most affected areas. The population of H2-SOP is pleased. The ruler - the Silk Knight - sends the company to H3 with the task of collecting those reparations, since they have already been there. At the time, they learned that the ruler of H3 is a tumultuous kin of the Silk Knight, the ruler of H2-SOP but they haven't shared this information.
On the way to H3, after a couple days of trotting, they encounter the Sorrowful Knight, despairing near a well. He mumbles complaints, shakes fists at the sky, sobs uncontrollably. The attentive listener makes out that all the words spoken by the Knight only describe problems, afflictions, and misfortunes for one self, rather than solutions, determination, or hope.
Despite the impatient movements of the Sorrowful Knight warhorse and the unquiet of the Company's mounts, Gowere and Samzun are enthralled by his lamentations and listen with eagerness.
